Playstation 4? Surprisingly, I'm sold.

PlatinumGames, Level-5, Nippon Ichi Software, Gust, Chunsoft, Marvelous AQL, Imageepoch and Atlus amongst others are developing for the PS4. It seems there's no way I won't be getting this system then.

Persona 5 for PS4. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. :>

  1. Hmm. I don't think retail releases will vanish anytime soon. I'm still amazed at the mass of indie PC titles that suddenly get retail releases over here. A lot of people like to own physical stuff... there's constantly people complaining about digital only releases, so I don't see them gone anytime soon. I don't mind either way, I prefer digital releases as it means I don't have even more stuff piling up in my small flat and I'm assuming that digital releases pollute the envirment less than the actual production of CDs/DVDs and packaging. But I also like to have some of the things I really love as a physical release I can show off to my friends...

But in the end, it's the game itself that should be the selling point and not it's pretty packaging. So if a game is awesome, I'm just glad if I can play it in a language I understand... if the only way to achieve that is a digital release, then I'm all for it.

I could imagine that the digital-only jump would lead to more world-wide releases of games in the long term, but that's just me speculating. 8)

  2. I didn't even bother watching all of it.. I fell asleep before it started anyway and woke up when it was over so I just watched a bit of it and read about the rest... and while I don't really like Blizzard as a company, I loved the dude that announced D3 for PS3/4.. 8)

  3. Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that all titles would soon only be released digitally. What I meant was that I imagine a large percentage of the 'next-gen' games released by small/niche/indie companies (like NIS, Atlus, etc.) may lean more toward being digital-only. That said, they're usually the ones to release SEs and LEs, so maybe I'm completely wrong here.

Regardless, I agree with the other points you've made--about just being happy these games are released at all, especially in a language we can understand. Also, I hope you're right that today's many digital channels may mean more worldwide releases in the future--especially for games that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day outside of Japan.
